Film Screening— "Janelle Lynch: Endless Forms Most Beautiful"

Join us for the New York premiere of ICP faculty and photographer Janelle Lynch’s new film “Janelle Lynch: Endless Forms Most Beautiful” followed by a screening of “Janelle Lynch: Amagansett Portraits.” Following the screening, Melanie Crader, Director of Visual Arts at Guild Hall will moderate a Q&A with Janelle Lynch and Mia Allen.

This program takes place during ICP’s Nifty Fifty! Enjoy free admission to ICP’s gallery plus a day of robust programming celebrating ICP’s 50th birthday before or after the screening.


About the Films

“Janelle Lynch: Endless Forms Most Beautiful” is a short documentary that follows artist Janelle Lynch during a period of solitude along the Atlantic Ocean. Delving into the concept of "what exists beyond," the film explores her creative process and deep connection to nature.

This poetic journey intertwines recollections of influences in childhood while exploring the vast natural world of New York, transporting viewers into a timeless space where art and self-reflection merge. The film celebrates Janelle's creative spirit and her commitment to seeking truths, highlighting the transformative power of witnessing creation in all things.

Janelle Lynch is widely known for her work in the landscape with an 8x10-inch view camera in search of themes related to ecological, spiritual, and human connection. The documentary short "Janelle Lynch: Amagansett Portraits," filmed spontaneously one afternoon during an artist retreat in Amagansett, New York, introduces her work in portraiture, a genre that has in recent years become integral to her creative practice.

About the Speakers

Melanie Crader is the Director of Visual Arts at Guild Hall.

Mia Allen is a filmmaker based in New York City. She specializes in story-driven visual media that expresses the undercurrent of human emotion. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Mia began her career as an actor, working for more than a decade on commercials, independent features and short films.

In 2018 she co-founded Alight Films, a bare-bones production company that went on to produce award-winning ads, short films, and a national broadcast commercial for BetterHelp.

Janelle Lynch is an American artist renowned for her use of a large-format camera and alternative processes in the discovery of ecological, spiritual, and human connection.

Combining portraits and nature imagery, Lynch’s work explores and imagines a world that centers beauty, connection, and empathy as foundational values and healing forces.

Lynch’s photographs and cyanotypes have been shown worldwide and are in many private and public collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; International Center of Photography, New York; and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Lynch has three Radius Books monographs: Los Jardines de México (2010); AIGA award-winning Barcelona (2013), which also features her writings; and Another Way of Looking at Love (2018), which includes an essay by Darius Himes, International Head of Photographs, Christie’s. Her work has been featured in publications including Harper's Magazine, Photograph Magazine, and The Guardian, and she is the recipient of several honors and grants, including three from Kodak.

In 2019, her series, Another Way of Looking at Love, was shortlisted for the Prix Pictet, the leading award in photography and sustainability. A related exhibition opened at the Victoria and Albert Museum and traveled to nine international venues. In 2023, Flowers Gallery opened a critically-acclaimed exhibition of Endless Forms Most Beautiful in London. And in 2024, Janelle Lynch: Endless Forms Most Beautiful, a short documentary film by Mia Allen will premiere in New York City.

Lynch is represented by Flowers Gallery. She teaches at the International Center of Photography and lives in New York City and Amagansett, New York.
